This has been our bestselling dog food for over a decade. Salmon and Potato kibble is high in Omega 3 oils. Omega 3 oils can help reduce the symptoms of allergies and are generally good for dogs*:
- anti inflammatory properties
- support skin and coat function
- help stiff and aching joints
- speed up wound healing
So what is the best Salmon dog food for allergies? Firstly, make sure it has lots of Salmon! Sounds obvious. But remember, a Salmon dog food must only contain 4% Salmon to be called Salmon dog food. Therefore the less Salmon in the kibble, the less beneficial the feed.
However with 44% Salmon, Easterbrooks Salmon & Potato dog food has high levels of Salmon (a great oily fish!). As a result there are also high levels of Omega 3 oils. Above all, it is a hypo-allergenic biscuit. Therefore it contains only Grade-A human consumption standard ingredients. This means there are no chemical flavouring, no artificial colourings and no artificial preservatives. In addition, it is wheat gluten free. Beef is also excluded. As a result it is particularly good for dogs with a sensitive digestion. The high quality of ingredients used improves smell and flavour. In other words, Easterbrooks is perfect for fussy dogs too!
Grain Free or Not Grain Free? Which is the better Salmon dog food for allergies?
One is not better than the other. They are different, as is every dog. However both have benefits. In our Salmon dog food, potato is the main carbohydrate source instead of rice. To avoid a completely grain free diet though, we have included a small amount of oats and maize. Feeding Guidelines
All bags of Easterbrooks Salmon & Potato dog food come with suggested feeding quantities. However, these are purely a guide. For instance, the following factors can have an affect on feeding quantities for older dogs:
- neutering. Neutered dogs should have their portions reduced by about 10%.
- individual breed.
- metabolic rate.
- level of activity.
- age of the dog.
- sex of the dog.
- ambient living temperature etc.
As a result, adjust feeding quantities as necessary. No matter how good a food is, too much is no good! For example, over feeding will usually lead to poor digestion and soft poo. Not to mention weight gain. Similarly, too little will affect their ability to maintain a healthy weight as they age.
Easterbrooks Salmon & Potato working dog food Breeder Packs are designed for households with multiple dogs or working/sporting dogs. If you do not have working dogs, reduce suggested feeding quantities on the back of the bag by about 10%. Alternatively, use the guide above which shows the feeding recommendation for non-working dogs. Remember, Breeder Packs are Vat Free so can be a more cost effective way to feed your dogs.

Been feeding this to our two dogs for the last ten years and on our last visit to the Vet she said if she hadn’t read the dog’s notes she’d have never believed they were nearly 13 years old as their coats and condition were as good as dogs five years younger!! Started off using Easterbrooks large breed puppy for a very fussy sensitive Dogue de Bordeaux who absolutely thrived on it and is the perfect weight for his breed. He’s now on the adult food and both our dogs love it. Both are large breed and this is the perfect size for them, particularly the Dogue as he has to eat slower and actually chew it. I would recommend this to anyone with large dogs. Both are healthy and in great shape.

Luna came to us as a rescue pup with a very sensitive stomach and two years later, we still have to be very careful of what we give her. We were ‘warned’ about a lifetime of expensive feeding so were really pleased when we realised the Easterbrooks suited her perfectly.
