Large Breed Dog Food

Large breed dogs can benefit from a specific large breed dog food. Our food has been specially formulated to meet the needs of big dogs. ‘Large Breed’ dogs are generally considered to be dogs with an adult weight of approximately 25kg or over. Dogs of this size tend to have a number of requirements/concerns in common. For instance, a larger biscuit promotes chewing in their big mouths. As a result, this can help slow down the rate of ingestion and therefore help to reduce the amount of air swallowed. Consequently, the risk of bloat can be reduced. Furthermore, large breed dogs are more prone to hip and elbow problems as well as ligament issues. Similarly, larger dogs have a tendency to age quicker and are prone to heart issues.

Depending on the breed, adult large breed dog food can normally be fed from about 15 months old. The larger the breed, the longer they will stay on large puppy food. For instance a Great Dane could stay on puppy food up to 2 years old. Not Just a Big Biscuit!

To help address these areas of concern, Teepee Large Breed Adult dog food has an adapted kibble size of approximately 20mm x 10mm. Compared to an average size dog biscuit, this is quite big and encourages the dog to chew instead of swallowing biscuits whole. In addition, a joint package of Chondroitin, Glucosamine and MSM helps to support joint function. Therefore, the dog is able to move freely and be more active for longer. As a result, their weight is better managed which in turn takes pressure of the heart and joints. Finally added Omega 3 helps to reduce inflammation in general whilst supporting a healthy skin and coat.

Why Turkey & Cranberry?

Not just a great combination at Christmas! Turkey (we use 50% Turkey in our large breed dog food) is a lean source of highly digestible protein which is rich in essential amino acids. In addition, it contains essential nutrients such as riboflavin, potassium and selenium. Furthermore, Cranberry is a good source of Vitamins C, E & K as well as dietary fibre. Moreover, Cranberry is great for maintaining urinary tract function. Whilst sweet potato is a great complex carbohydrate high in B Vitamins. These all contribute to general health and wellbeing. Large dogs can also be more prone to digestive upset. Consequently, added prebiotics (MOS & FOS) help to promote the growth of good bacteria in the gut and aid digestion.

Feeding Guidelines

All bags of Teepee Large Breed dog food come with suggested feeding quantities. However, these are purely a guide. For instance, the following factors can have an effect on feeding quantities:

• individual breed.
• metabolic rate.
• level of activity.
• neutering.
• age of the dog.
• sex of the dog.
• ambient living temperature etc.

As a result, adjust feeding quantities as necessary. No matter how good a food is, too much is no good! For example, over feeding will usually lead to poor digestion and soft poo. Not to mention weight gain. Similarly, too little will affect their ability to maintain a healthy bodyweight.

Teepee Large Breed dog food Breeder Packs are designed for households with multiple dogs or working/sporting dogs. If you do not have working dogs, reduce suggested feeding quantities by about 10%.  In addition, Breeder Packs are Vat Free so can be a more cost-effective way to feed your dogs.
